Odessa is famous not only for its rich history and architecture. It is also famous for its unique humor and traditions formed under the influence of Jewish culture. In fact, one of Odessa's names is Zion Gates.

You can understand why this name was given to the city, when you visit its famous Potemkin Stairway.

In the beginning of the 20th century up to 40 percent of Odessa population consisted of Jews. There are many locations of Jewish Heritage in Odessa you can visit during our Odessa tour. Those include synagogues, monuments and hospitals founded by Jews.

Many of these buildings have historical significance, but most of them are still in use, like synagogues. You can meet local members of the Odessa Jewish Community there. The main synagogue of Odessa was built in 1850. During the Soviet times the facility was used as one of the teachers' college buildings. It was returned into possession of the local Jewish community only in 1996.

Another stop on our tour is Jewish history museum of Odessa. The first such museum was founded back in 1927. It had the largest collection in Europe, but the majority of artifacts were stolen or destroyed during the World War II and German occupation time of Odessa. The museum was founded by the local Jewish community. Present day museum was founded in 2002 and has a collection of over 1000 artifacts, documents and items.

During this tour you will learn the Jewish history of Odessa and experience Odessa Jewish lifestyle. Indeed, it's a unique experience you do not want to miss. Unless you meet local Jews, see their heritage and taste their cuisine in a variety of local Jewish restaurants, you cannot hope to understand this city or get the full picture of its life and culture.

The minimum tour duration is 3 hours.
